Temporary X-Ray Inspection Services Saves the Day for Organic Food Manufacturer
June 1, 2009 New Haven, CT
More than ever before, food manufacturers and packagers are taking significant steps to ensure the safety of their food products. However, no matter how much screening, inspection, and detection goes on prior to and during the manufacturing process, product contaminant issues do occur. Total Quality Corporation (TQC) has been getting calls from food manufacturers on a daily or weekly basis for more than 25 years, so the following case is no different than thousands before it. It does however point to the fact that there are alternatives to disposing of product that is valuable to your organization and your reputation.
We received a call from an organic food manufacturer based in Texas to see if we could help them. They had a metal piece break up into very small pieces, along with a piece of a hard rubber sleeve, that somehow ended up in their finished product (a foil pouch).
In such a case the TQC policy is to ask the client to send a sample of product, in its present packaged state, along with the contaminant to their corporate offices. Once received, a confidential product evaluation takes place and a summary of findings (along with digital images) is returned to the client. In the event of positive finding, a cost, time frame, and logistical options are provided as well.
As is most often the case, the client was very concerned with the safety of the product and their reputation. They also had a both a significant financial investment in the suspect product and a need to meet the demands of their end user. As a result, they were looking to get the product inspected with complete satisfaction and out to the consumer as soon as possible.
"The client wanted TQC to oversee the project and they wanted this done at their Texas facility, so we had one of our highly trained technicians deliver a system and remain on-site to oversee the entire project, which was completed with the highest degree of satisfaction in less than 2 weeks from their initial inquiry", states TQC Director of Operations, Kymberly Seneco.
"I cannot imagine another company being able to resolve the product inclusion problem that we had in such a timely, cost-effective, and professional manner", adds the Quality Assurance Manager for the organic food manufacturing client.
